Great radio & clock with minimal drawbacks January 8, 2009
The sound is deep and rich, the radio tunes in far more stations than my old GE clock it replaces, it's easy to understand and use, connecting an iPod via its headphone jack to the clock's aux jack in back is a no-branier with a $3 cable, it doesn't take up the whole nightstand, and I love the look of the clock.
The alarm function is wonderful. The gradual way it increases radio volume when the alarm goes off avoids the blaring, instant full-volume shock my old radio delivered. The snooze bar is ingenious, easy-to-use, and works perfectly. The sleep function is also very easy to use, although I could see how it might confuse people: once it's been turned on via the control knob, the snooze bar lets you change (or turn off) the sleep time setting.
The display shows you exactly what function you are modifying (volume, tone control, sleep timer, alarm, etc.) and then switches back to the time/radio station a few seconds afterwards. So if you're looking at the display when you're working the clock, you shouldn't get confused.
And now for my issues with the clock:
First, holding down the Alarm 1 button sometimes doesn't work. Holding down the Alarm 2 button always lets you adjust the alarm, but the Alarm 1 button might work or just toggle the alarm on/off. Holding the button during the Sleep function actually causes the buzzer alarm to go off. I have contacted Boston Acoustics for a resolution and will update this review, when I hear from them. It's not a huge issue, because you can quickly get to all the functions (including both alarms) from the left control knob.
Second, it is a bright display. Although there are 20 brightness settings and it does auto-dim at night, it's brighter than the old LED displays I grew up with. I can sleep fine with a little light, but some people might have difficulty.
All in all, a really nice product.

This is a really nice piece. It is well designed and has good ergonomics. It feels solid and well made. The sound quality impressed me for a mono speaker. Very highly recommended. Also available with different color metal grills from BostonAcoustics.com

This product is useless for those who want to go to sleep listening to the radio. It can be done, but is far too complicated for the late night hours when this feature is most desirable
Almost a 5 Star Except For The Terrible Sleep Mode Function December 20, 2008
Got this radio a few days ago and thought I would put it through its paces before I write what I think of it. First I bought a Logitech PURE-FI DREAM iPod iPhone Speaker System at the Apple store. Great sound and features but the radio reception from its wire combo ac and fm antenna was terrible. It had no external FM antenna plug so it was useless for radio. I returned it. I didn't like any of the other options with a dock for my Iphone 3G so then I decided to get just a radio with an aux jack. So here we are. It's not terribly expensive, the BA Solo that is. Got it at B&H for $75. Good deal. The sound quality is amazing. Radio reception is awesome. I live in NY and there's not a hint of hiss on my favorite stations WBGO and WNYC. Just perfect. Looks great and I love the snooze on the frame. As easy as that is the sleep mode is the worst. You have to go into the menu, click the dial 6 rotations and then turn the dial to set the time. This is just stupid design and almost was enough of a reason to return the radio but everything else is fantastic and there's nothing to compete with it as far as I'm concerned, especially for the price. When you are drowsing off this is so annoying I can't tell you. Using the same snooze frame for sleep as someone mentioned would have been awesome. Shame on Boston Acoustics for screwing up an almost perfect clock radio. Oh one more little problem, almost forgot. I have a slight buzz on AM when my 3G IPhone is plugged in from an Apple dock into the AUX plug on the back using a mini plug. I bought a different cable and the same thing. I then tried it with a regular IPod and there's no buzz on AM. BTW on FM or AUX there's no buzz with the IPhone. Obviously it's the phone causing the interference again on AM only. If it wasn't for the news stations I would never listen to the band. So all in all a great radio with one misfortunate design problem.
Update: I finally got tired of the sleep mode and returned the radio. I bought the Logitech Squeezebox Boom. The sleep button is a bar on top like any good clock radio would have. I'm loving the Boom since now I can go to sleep every night and set the sleep mode in a second. Also the boom is an internet radio so I can plug my iphone into it and there's no buzz. It's expensive but this is a radio for the 21st. century.
Superb Clock Radio December 4, 2008
This is one great clock radio. I live in a very mountainous rural area and am able to pick up stations I never could before. The included antenna does a fine job. There is virtually no station bleed.
I am puzzled by the various complaints in other reviews. The radio I received was in A+ condition and everything worked just fine. There are no issues with sudden time changes. You have an option to change the default view setting to radio station or time which automatically reverts the display to whatever you choose... radio station or time. The manual is very clear in that regard. Moving around the settings system is a bit awkward but you can pick it up quickly and the manual is helpful.
The back lit display is fine. Unless you're used to sleeping in a sealed cave, the light should be a non-issue. On the low setting it is almost out. Certainly a LOT lower than any clear moonlit night.
The alarm does go off on the last station you listen to, but to me that is not a big deal at all. I like the last station I'm listening to or I wouldn't be listening to it.
Bottom line: buy this clock radio. The sound and reception are superb.
