| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Displays HDTV programs in full 1920 x 1080p resolution for a more detailed picture.Unlike other sensors which can only sense brightness of ambient light, LG's "Intelligent Sensor" uses 4,096 sensing steps to evaluate its surroundings. Using a sophisticated algorithm, the LG processes picture quality elements including brightness, contrast, color, sharpness and white balance. The result is a picture optimized for it's surroundings, more pleasing to watch and which can also save up to 50% in power consumption. The AV Mode optimizes the picture into Cinema, Sports, and game Mode according to the video and audio content. The viewer has the ability to quickly choose the correct mode for the picture they are viewing.Automatically enhances and amplifies the sound of human voice frequency range to help keep dialog audible when background noise swells. This TV contains the detailed calibrations necessary for professional certification by the Imaging Science Foundation. The resulting ISF "day" and "night" modes will then be accessible by the user to experience the best their LG HDTV has to offer.

Not bad ... so far, not bad at all! January 7, 2009 I got this TV after being locked in on the Panasonic TH-42PX80 - a very highly rated 42 inch plasma television. But when I was offered this set at $750 + tax the game changed. I didn't even want LCD technology due to price and viewing angle issues (and the fact that I was putting this in my basement). But after the offer I had the opportunity to watch the LG4250 on the showroom floor for about 10 minutes of DirecTV HD broadcasting and I decided I was sold.
This set is 1080p and has an acceptable (for the price) 5 ms response rate. Yes it's Blu-Ray ready, but my standard resolution (not upscaling) DVD player looks absolutely brilliant. I was certain that I would have to purchase a Blu-Ray player, or at a minimum a 1080p upscaling DVD player. Unless you're super picky, your standard DVD player will work fantastic.
Like others have commented the weakest feature is probably it's sound, given through what LG markets as "invisible speaker" technology - they just pointed them downward, and standard definition (480p) broadcasting doesn't look so great.
This is a fantastic unit overall, and will make a great addition to any living room or home theatre. You will NOT be disappointed.
42" LG LCD January 6, 2009 What a picture! This tv looks great in any light and from any angle. I've waited a long time to get an LCD and the wait was worth it. The only thing I would change is the design of the remote. It's not what I would call intuitive.
Almost perfect! January 2, 2009 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Pros - Beautiful images from all viewing angles Super convenient swivel stand Attractive housing - clean, modern lines Easy hook-up Strong, clear sound
Cons (reason for four star rating, instead of five) - Sound isn't regulated from HD to Standard modes (very loud level with standard; very soft in HD - be mindful when you channel surf!)
Overall, would definitely purchase again!
Vertical line January 1, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well, I read all the reviews on this TV and bought it for Christmas. I was very impressed with it initially, especially compared to my more expensive Samsung. However, a week later, there is a vertical line that would not go away. I now will have to deal with the manufacturer on the warranty. I hope there will not be too many obstacles getting it fixed, because I don't think I'd be able to return it as I have thrown away all the boxes.
Surprisingly solid television January 1, 2009 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I selected this television from among some bigger name brands in the store because it seemed to have the sharpest picture, which surprised me. I looked at Sony, Samsung, etc, but I kept coming back to this one. The picture seemed so natural and vivid. I am not unhappy with my purchase. The picture is crisp, intelligent sensor works great, and I have no complaints at all. I love the size and clarity as well as the remote choices. The controls are intuitive and it is easy to set up and start. It's also one of the nicest looking televisions out there, in my opinion. It does swivel, 20 degrees, I think, and the sound is adequate also. This is my first LG purchase but it will not be the last.
