Would buy again! Does as promised. January 8, 2009 TV does exactly what it promises. QAM tuner gives unscrambled HD local channels without extra cost (on Comcast). This is our third Philips flat panel and I would buy a fourth. Just too bad it does not have Ambilight.
Very Disappointing October 27, 2008 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
My wife and I have had an old Philips TV in our bedroom for some time. When we decided to go HD, we actually bought a Philips 47" for the family room--and loved it. So it seemed a good idea to buy another Philips to replace the one in the bedroom. Bad move.
I was really happy with the specs on this TV. No, it's not 1080, but for our bedroom, that's really OK. There are generous inputs for DVDs, satellite, Playstation, etc. It also looks nice, the stand swivels, which is great for the location we chose. And the picture is quite nice. DVDs look great, and HD looks even better.
The trouble with this set is the audio. It sounds *horrible*. No, beyond horrible. The speakers are located in the back, and are supposed to be "Incredible Surround" more like incredible Tin Can. Seriously, they have absolutely no low end, the mid-range is muddled. I played around with moving it to different locations--thinking maybe it was a reflection problem, since the speakers are in the back. No dice. It still sounds like the speakers are coffee cans with string. Seriously, I've heard better quality of sound on pay phones. The sound on this TV sucks so hard I was ready to return it. The only saving grace is that it does have outputs (Dolby Digital and a headphone jack). I've actually used the headphone jack to hook up a pair of $20 Altec Lansing PC speakers that sound *much* better than the built in speakers on this t*rd of a TV.
Seriously, save your money. There are other TVs in the Philips line that don't feature the rear speakers, and I'm sure they are great. This one is a total dog. Stay away.
... BUT needs backlight controls October 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this from a club store for 600 shipped and we are satisfied with the picture quality, multiple input connections and attractive frame (edges has clear plastic surround). I think the one thing that this unit needs is backlight controls, since too much of backlight affected some images that contrast and brightness cant fix. I have to use light sensor to fix the issue. .
Good TV, good price September 28, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this Philips 32" TV, and I am very pleased with my purchase. After looking at different models of 32" televisions available, the different brands and specs had me a little worried about making the right decision. However this TV has great picture, looks modern and stylish, has plenty of imputs, and is easy to use and program. It looks great for movies, games, and hd and regular TV programing, it even cleans up analog channels somewhat. I have also used a 32 inch samsung and I certainly could not say that it was is any better than this, in fact i think i prefer the philips. Also, as far as looking at specs when buying a tv, do not be worried if you are considering this television: considering its size and price range it is very competitive. I was a little worried about its 8ms response time considering samsung and some others have 6ms or even 4ms, but i cannot tell the difference and from what I have read there are differences between manufacturers when it comes to measuring such things; it also has a 26000 dynamic contrast ratio which is impressive i guess, but who really knows. The bottom line is this: picture looks great, movies look great, and video games look great, everything I needed from an HDTV; and it was easy to set up, just letting you select from different picutres to determine what type of settings you want. hope this was helpfull.
