Not a kitchen scale?January 3, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I use this scale exclusively in the kitchen. It is not intended for kitchen use. One has to be very careful not to spill ingredients on it - the area under the weighing platform is accessible only with a toothpick. Lack of care will result in a short life - the works will begin to stick, signalling the end. Also it must be gently handled. I manage to get about 5 years out of mine - am on my third one as I write. The accuracy and repeatability are superb, unsurpassed in this price range. Using this scale to measure ingredients for baking result in absolutely the same quality product every time! No variation. I recommend it, but Be Careful!
The best bang for the buck in a household digital scaleFebruary 21, 2005 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I've owned this scale for about 4 years and use it mostly in the kitchen to weigh ingredients.
The Zero function is indespensible. You can place a bowl or other container on the scale and zero the scale then weigh each ingredient as you add it to the bowl, zeroing between ingredients.
The scale even remembers to subtract the weight of the bowl and any contents added before the last time you zeroed it. You can remove the bowl to add ingredients and place the bowl back on the scale and the scale will only show the weight of the new ingredient.
I have a digital scale from another manufacturer, which has a zero function but does not remember the zero value if you remove the container and place it back on the scale. It's a pain.
Ohaus has a long tradition of accuracy. Their triple beam analog scales have been used in scientific laboratories for years. This scale is very accurate and repeatable and stays accurate over time. In the 4 or so years I've owned it I have only had to replace the batteries 2 or 3 times, and I use it every day.
