HORRIBLE INK!!! December 5, 2008 I don't know why there's no talk about ink quality among the major multi-function printers. I went to several electronics stores this week and ran "test prints" from printers I liked. I urge you to do the same. Let the pages dry, wet your finger, run it across the print, and then see what happens. You'll thank me. Please note, my issue here is smudging and bleeding AFTER the print is dry (even days or weeks after printing).
I ordered the HP 6180. Aside from insanely bloated software, dry prints smudged and bled after contact with the smallest amounts of moisture. HP then replaced my 6180 with the newer c7280. Sadly, the new model used the same ink. Bottom line - IF THE INK COMES IN CONTACT WITH ANY MOISTURE (a moist finger, drop of water on your desk, raindrops, etc.) IT BLEEDS. Some morons will tell you "that's life nowadays because new printers use water-soluble ink." Do they really believe that??? If so, they really are morons. It's not true. First off, think back to $80 ink jet printers from five or ten years ago. They DID NOT BLEED. So I went to several stores this week and did my own reality check. Fact is, it depends on the models and manufacturers. I found that Brother, Lexmark, and Epson DO NOT BLEED. So there you have it.
I must say that I'm shocked that there are no websites or discussions about this problem, especially considering that it occurs across multiple manufacturers and models. I would have figured that somewhere in all the information floating around the internet, some wise person would have tackled this. Other than one other reviewer for this very printer, nobody else seems to even notice or care. I'm shocked.
I hate this printer because of this issue, but the real tragedy here is that it is honestly an excellent machine otherwise. Fantastic features, wireless, and awesome duplexing, but it's all lost on the ink (and its ridiculously bloated software). Good ridden. I'm buying the Brother MFC 885 today.
Nothing but problems December 4, 2008 I have had nothing but problems with this printer. I bought it for the all-in-one features and to free up some room on my desk. From the beginning, the scanner never worked. I kept getting error messages. I tried several times to correct the problem with the tech people but I had nothing but problems reaching them. Then the printer kept getting paper jams in the back. Now the rollers don't grip the paper and any copies I make only come out half or barely completed. Also, after I replace an empty ink cartridge, when I try to print, I get a message stating that the cartridge is empty and do I want to print in black only. This happens no matter which ink cartridge I replace. I will never buy an all-in-one product from Hewlett Packard again. The only feature that has worked without any problems is the fax nor did I have any problem with the software installation.
Best printer so far December 1, 2008 We have 3 other printers and the hp c7280 is the easiest to use. The others are an Epson and 2) HP's one being an all in one. The color is perfect and the ability to insert an SD card and print out Photos is absolutely amazing. I've had this printer for 6 weeks now and have yet to find a flaw.

Haven't used all the features yet but so far it's working well. I would like a screen that tells me how much ink is left.
