Product Description Smaller, lighter, and loaded with unique functions, the Standard Horizon HX370 5 watt handheld VHR marine radio is built to take the daily punishment of the marine environment. Included are 12VDC and 110VAC overnight charges with a drop-in base, a submersible AA alkaline battery tray, and a belt clip.
Amazon.com Product Description Keep on top of emergencies while staying in touch with other boaters with the Standard Horizon STD-HX370S handheld two-way VHF radio. Specifically designed for marine use, the HX370S is factory programmed with all U.S., Canadian, and international marine channels, keeping you fully informed of all the latest oceanic activity. At the same time, the radio offers a host of weather channels from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), so you can learn about approaching storms or hurricanes well before they hit. And if that weren't enough, it's also compatible with up to 40 commercial Land Mobile Radio (LMR) channels with CTCSS or DCS signaling, though a Standard Horizon dealer will need to program the channels (and users are responsible for obtaining the appropriate FCC license). As with any well-built marine radio, the HX370S is rugged and fully waterproof, with a compact design that can withstand submersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. It's also a breeze to browse through the channels using the scan function, either without priority (starting from lowest to highest) or while monitoring emergency channels 16 and 9 and the NOAA weather alert, which warns you of inclement conditions. Other operational details include a Preset key that easily recalls your eight most-used channels, an oversized LCD with channel names, and a high-intensity strobe light that emits the internally recognized S.O.S. signal during emergencies--a must for any boater. The S.O.S. beacon can be seen from up to 1 mile away. When you're not using the 5-watt radio, simply drop it in the included charging cradle, which will keep the rechargeable NiMH battery operating at full capacity (the radio lasts for roughly 18 hours per charge). Also included is a waterproof alkaline battery tray, a 12-volt charger, and an AC charger. And because dead batteries can be a serious safety hazard on the water, the HX370S sports a battery life indicator on the LCD that warns you when the battery needs charging. Also compatible with optional speaker microphones, headsets, and voice scramblers, the HX370S radio measures 2.3 by 3.7 by 1.2 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a three-year warranty. What's in the Box HX370S two-way radio, charging cradle, submersible AA alkaline battery tray, NiMH battery, 12-volt charger, AC charger, belt clip, user's manual.

Great radio for marine use and amateur comms near water. July 31, 2008 This radio was recommended by a co-worker who is into amateur radio and works around ships. I bought one for use on the water as well, and like the fact that it can take 40 user programmable channels. Note that programming requires a cable and software from Vertex/Standard Horizon. This is readily available and can be done by anyone with computer and radio skills. I like that it is a nice and heavy unit, with great battery life and large display. Unit will use most accessories from the VX-170 2 meter handheld. This includes the programming cable (also used on the VX-7R), microphones and battery packs. The antenna on this radio is short and does not get in the way. Great to have on small pleasure craft or for commercial use. Puts out enough power to be heard and has great audio. It would have got a fifth star from me if it didn't require software and a computer to program. I prefer full DTMF keypads and programming capability. Can't fault the easy to use layout though.

small, lightweight, (for what it packs) this is the top of the line in marine talkies, crystal clear, and ruggard, it charges quickly and looks to be practially indestructible. a great buy!
