Keeping the ear canal dry will help prevent outer ear infections like swimmers ear or Otitis Externa by eliminating the moisture where bacteria and fungi like to grow. DryEar is a highly sophisticated device equipped with a computer chip, heater, and fan that work together to automatically regulate airflow. The airflow runs for approximately one minute at a comfortable temperature, resulting in a dry outer ear canal. Once you have fully dried your ears with a towel and inserted a personal color-coded earpiece, you're ready to use the DryEar device. Operation is simple: push the power button, place the earpiece gently in your ear, and let the airflow work its magic. After the drying cycle is complete, DryEar shuts off on its own. You can tell it is working as you feel the cooling, evaporative effect. If you feel your ears are dry before the cycle ends, you can turn the device off manually. The Sahara DryEar emits air that is regulated close to your body temperature. This is important because your ears are the balance center of your body. DryEar uses body-temperature air to ensure a comfortable and effective drying experience. Other methods -- such as a hair dryer or similar blowing device -- are not custom-made to the sensitive requirements of your ear canals. If you are experiencing any pain in your ears and you use the Sahara DryEar, be sure to thoroughly clean the earpiece with hot, soapy water and rubbing alcohol before using it in your other ear. This will reduce the chance of infection. Also, keep this device out of the reach of children. In particular, keep out of reach of children under three years of age because the small, colored ear pieces are considered a choking hazard. Consult your doctor before using DryEar, especially if you have ear drainage, pain, irritation or rash in the ear, dizziness, or have ever had head surgery.  Odd device, but it's so helpful!! December 9, 2008
First off, don't mention that you're buying (or have bought) an ear dryer to your friends or you'll get (at best) a blank stare; at worse you'll be laughed at for some time. But, if you suffer from chronic ear infections, this is a must purchase.
I swim pretty much every day, and have battled ear infections for years. Tried all the usual treatments to prevent them, such as alcohol drops, ear plugs, vinegar, and combinations thereof. They help (especially the ear plugs) but I still wind up with an infection every couple of months. That's both painful and expensive, since the doc won't give multiple refills of antibiotic drops without an exam.
Saw this and thought I'd give it a shot. In a word, it's fantastic! Not the most sophisticated device in the world - you just place it in your ear, turn it on, and it blows warm air for about a minute. At first, it will feel cool as the water in your ear drys. Then it gets warm. Very comfortable, and very quiet (an important feature of anything that gets near your ear).
I'll update this as time goes by, but so far I'm thrilled with the device. I use it twice daily, and it really makes my ear feel better (for some reason, I only get infections in one ear). When it arrived I was in the midst of an infection, and the drying action really helped cut down on the usual discomfort of an infection in progress.
It varies in price, but even at the regular price it is well worth it if you are a chronic ear infection sufferer.

This product is just wonderful. My 22 year old daughter was having constant fungal ear infections, but since using this product, they have practically disappeared. She uses it after each shower and after swimming. Would recommend it to anyone 100%.
No more earaches May 21, 2008
Maybe just coincidence, but in the two months since we purchased and began using this device, my 6-y.o. daughter has not had an ear ache!
Dinged a star because it could be more robust - the battery cover lost the first time she used it.

this product did not mesure up to expectations. it seems poorly designed and only worked for a couple of months before failure.

This is the second unit I am buying within a one year period. The first stopped working after 9 months. My wife and I surf a lot and she suffers from ear aches after a long session in the water. The DryEar solved all her ear aches. If the first unit was still working I would not hesitate to give it a 5-star rating since it clearly does what it is intended to do. But since it failed so quickly the best I can do is 3-stars. If you have ear problems due to water then this unit works quite well, but be prepared for a malfunction. I only wish the unit would have a longer life span.
