Product Description The black backing can be removed to create a "shoot through" umbrella to create a softbox lighting effect. Great for still life setups or single light head & shoulder portraits. Use a colored filter in front of the light for some really special effects

Strobist, do not apply. November 6, 2008 Great product. Unfortunately i am starting to work on off camera flash and this umbrella is not portable. Love the fact though that it has multiple use as shoot through and Diffused light. Will be a great addition for a studio setup.
update 26-11-2008: Have done some initial shots with these in reflective and shoot through and must say not bad at all.
Great Umbrella at a Great Price! October 15, 2008 i was really surprised at the quality of this umbrella for the price. The removable cover is a great option as it gives you the flexibility of both a shoot through and reflective umbrella. The black cover (silver-lined) removes quite easily. The rod seems to be made of a solid piece of metal and I had no problem with crimping in the clamp. All and all, this umbrella is a great value.
Not bad for the $$$ August 19, 2008 I've used the Photogenic Eclipse umbrellas exclusively, but the most recent one I got opened up almost flat. I figured that a different umbrella wouldn't be a problem so I got a couple of these from Adorama. I only had to re-calibrate my custom white balance for these umbrellas using a digital target and we were good to go. They are kind of stiff out of the wrapper, probably because it has a removable cover. Overall though, it works just find and I haven't had any issues with it.
NOT COLLAPSIBLE! Good otherwise August 15, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I feel like an idiot because I didn't think to check that it would be collapsible before I ordered it. I needed something portable, that would fit in my backpack. The shaft of this doesn't even telescope, it's one long piece.
Very pleased with this product June 21, 2008 I just started doing studio work. Of the many umbrellas from which to choose, this is a wonderfully versatile reflective and shoot through option. The black/silver reversible backing is easily removed and, when on, is well seated over the primary umbrella. Excellent value, as well.
