Very Important: Adapter On Backwards, But Easily Fixable November 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Overall this swivel holder does it's job quite well. However, like most products, there are flaws to it (easily fixable).
The first noticable one is the adapter position. The correct way a mount should be designed is that the stationary portion would located on the bottom, and the adjustable portion would be located on the top. When you first open the box, the portion that holds onto the umbrella is located on the bottom where it cannot be adjusted. This means that if you mount it on, the umbrella stays in one place while you are still able to move the top swivel for the flash. This is incorrect. The umbrella should move with the flash simulataneious. I was able to correct this by simply pulling out the two metal adapters and switching sides with one another. You just have to pull it out pretty hard. And also note that when they mention it comes with an "adapter" to switch sides, they don't mean a seperate adapter. It means that the metal part that I just pulled out has two ends to it. One with a 3/8'' and the other 1/4''. The holder comes with two adapders in total (already attached) with two sides on each, both male and female. This should accomadate a stand with a male end of 1/4'' or 3/8''.
It does not come with an instruction manual. Most holders do not come with an instruction manual which can confuse a lot of beginners. Do research for this. Basically if you set it up as I stated above you should be fine. I'm not sure why Adorama decided to make their holders like this. I understand that it is still usable in that particular position, however it's not the best.
Overall it does it's job.
Strobist, one of the better one. November 6, 2008 Unlike what is depicted no hot shoe attachment came with mine. Not a loss though because the screw size on the stud fit well with the mount i had. It was bigger then i expected. Sign of good build quality? Time will tell. Everything fits nice and tight.
Excelente producto October 18, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Inicie comprando uno y ahora tengo tres, es un excelente producto y el precio es bajo comparado con otras marcas que hacen lo mismo, lo recomiendo para los amateurs como lo soy yo, saludos
Everything I expected August 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The bracket is everything I expected and more. Is very sturdy, the screws tighten as they should and don't loosen that easily. Every way to screw/mount I could think of is in there.
Both male and female ends of the two most used screw sizes are in the removable studs. I can use it on top of a light stand or a standard tripod. Can connect my flash with the screw for my TTL cable or via the hotshoe. Umbrella fits nicely
All in all, very satisfied.
It works, but not wonders. June 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good product, it perfectly does what it's supposed to. The only thing that bugged me is that the adjusting knobs for the studs are placed on a part where they block (in certain angles) the umbrella rod from going farther so you get less angle. Anyway, it's not the angles you use everyday and you can also use a boom stand for extreme angles. I'm happy with it and always carry 2 of these with me.
