SD790 is vulnerable to the dreaded 'Lens error, restart camera'August 29, 2008 I bought this camera on the excellent recommendations from Ken Rockwell's site, as well as the Amazon reviews. However, upon receiving it, I got the 'Lens Error, restart camera' error and the camera is not able to take pictures.
I might up the rating when I receive a new one - this one is heading back to Amazon.
Hooked on Canon Digital ElphsAugust 27, 2008 I upgraded to this camera from the SD450 after it was dropped and refused to operate correctly. This camera is exceptionally stylish, all buttons are inlaid and cut from the body. It fits very nicely in a pocket. The picture quality is a jump from the SD450, which suffered from a focus issue. I have not taken a single out of focus picture with this camera. The response time is what you would expect from a digital camera, I don't know if there have been any advances in this area, this is purely a limitation of the flash card. If you are looking for a camera to take along with you, this is a great choice.

We have been using this camera for over 2 weeks. All is very-very good. The only complaint is that filming movies is not great - no zoom which messes with the focus. Beautiful design, great metal case, super clear screen, nice menus, good battery life, etc. IS (image stabilization) works VERY well, no blurred images. Images have vibrant color and have very crisp details. It is easy to accidentally change shooting modes by touching the new function-wheel on the back of the camera. I am used to checking status before shooting, but my wife has missed many shots because she accidentally changed to a manual mode.
