Cool little camera September 4, 2008 I bought this camera because I like to take candid shots. You know the ones where nobody is expecting the picture and then they're all yelling ERASE THAT! And I am very pleased that this camera makes those pics possible. Unlike other digital cameras that tend to flash for five seconds before taking the picture I can go ahead and click away and capture the moment, whatever it may be. The screen is hard to see in darker places like bars or dimly lit restoraunts but is usually able to be viewed after pic is taken thanks to the awesome flash. It has a pretty god face recognizer on it but I honestly don't have a reference of comparison. It also has quite a bit of options for picture taking including a two-to-three shot panoramic mode. I wish it came with a case but that's about the only real complaint I have. I keep it on 5 mega pixels for the pictures and they come out looking amazing and it allows around 2000 pics on a 2GB SD memmory card.
The zoom feature is nice but when it gets into the digital zoom arena it gets pretty choppy. Not much of a complaint their though as the normal zoom goes in pretty deep.
All in all if you want a camera to take out and just take fun pics with you can't really go wrong with this one. It has great quality and timing and I've always trusted Kodak cameras.
Kodak M863 - A great travel camera August 30, 2008 While this camera doesn't have everything, it packs a lot into a little package for a great price. I needed a small camera on a recent trip to PR. I got some great pics. My only beef which I listed in the con section was that the LCD screen turns into a mirror in bright light. I just pointed in the general direction and managed to get great pics anyway.
Pros: Small size (fit in shirt pocket), image stabilization, good battery life. LCD screen makes an awesome mirror in bright light (see cons). Excellent price for and 8+ megapixel camera especially when compared to models of similar size and features. 18 scenes available for different picture situations. HD Stills and digital image stabilization. Panaromic stiching of three sequential pics. Kodak is always very user friendly and very easy to use right out of the box.
Cons: No view finder just LCD screen. Can't see LCD screen in bright sunlight, only a good reflection of yourself. No rapid sequence pics like some other kodak models of similar size.
Awesome little camera August 24, 2008 I've only had my camera a few weeks but it's been great so far. It's a huge improvement from the 2mp camera I had. It's small enough to fit in my pocket which was what I wanted it for, and it has sound themes to choose from so that's kind of fun. The face detection is kind of cool. Only thing I'm unsure about is the zoom. It doesn't seem to zoom in very far and when you do zoom all the way in, the picture looks very grainy, on the screen at least. It may not come out that way when printed. I don't know. I'm happy with my purchase though. It's a good camera for the casual picture taker.
lasted 1 week August 17, 2008 This looked to be a good product in the reviews. The camera worked for about a week and then it appears the unit does not stay on and could not get the zoom to return. I saw another review posted a few days after I made the purchase here with the same problem.
Awesome Cam! August 12, 2008 This camera was exactly what I was looking for. It has a built in battery for easy recharge, simple to use, and compact to make it easy to carry. It has multiple settings for photos, and takes a great shot. A definite buy for anyone who wants a quality, affordable camera.
