A MUST HAVE FOR ANY SONGWRITER!!!! July 25, 2010 sdarr I purchased this product a little while ago with one purpose only, and that was to help me with song ideas. I rarely write reviews, but fealt obligated to get the word out there to other musicians about how amazing this product is!
It is amazing, whenever I have a quick idea that I need to get into tangable form before I end up forgeting it, I reach for this product and record with the click of two buttons (on and record). It seems a little intimadating at first, but once you get the basics down for exactly what you are doing, then you will be proficient with it quite easily.
Another awesome feature is the direct USB connectivty. I will admit that I thought it was wierd and stupid looking, but this actually comes to be very handy to just pop right into your PC to work on ideas later, which makes a little better to store and catalog since let me tell you, this thing has so much memory for this purpose that it could get a little overwealming with all the ideas that you could save with so many different song numbers and not actual titles. That might be something I wish it could do, but who knows, there are enough features maybe you can do that, and I just don't know how. Like I said before, I just read the directions once to know what I wanted to do with it, and never went back to it since it's pretty eash to use.
But again, you are able to transfer the sound samples directly onto your pc with a few diferrent formats, and I've even brought the recorder directly to band practice to record rough ideas, and although you wont get any label attention with the sound quailty, it is more than enough to solidfy ideas. It's small enough to take anywhere too.
Since I bought this product I have written several songs, and found it to be the most valuable weapon in my songwrigting aresenal. I can't picture my self living without it, and might purchase another down the road just to have a back up so that I could have one in every section of the house, or at work so when ideas strike, I have my trusty recorder right by my side!
Truthfully, this product is AMAZING and I highly reccomend it!
Big bang for the bucks... July 19, 2010 Robert Hipp III (Vienna WV) I bought this digital recorder at my local Wal-Mart for about $36. I looked at many but the deal breaker for me was that which ever one I bought had to have PC USB connectivity. Some were even more expensive and didn't even have that feature. Not only did this one have it, the connector is actually built right into the body and slides in and out by a sliding button on the back of the body, no connection wires needed, which is a plus in my book! I was still hestitant because of the low 512mb memory and low price thinking the recording quality may not be so hot, but after reading enough positive reviews here I thought I'd take the chance and I'm glad I did! Even on the highest quality recording setting you still get about 17 hrs. worth of recording space which is plenty for my uses. The sound quality and sensitivity of the mic blew me away. The recordings were super clear and the mic picked up EVERYTHING, even the ticking of my battery operated quartz wall clock. Be sure to read the instructions to set it up according to the conditions you are recording in. Plus experimentation will help you as well. For my uses I leave it on HQ period. so I cannot say about the slower speeds. I bought this as an inexpensive recorder for paranormal work for capturing audio events and EVP's. The HQ setting gives me the recording quality I need as well as plenty of record time for overnighters on cases. I am very pleased with this little recorder, I'm going to drop some lithium AAA's into it for even longer lasting battery time. It also has a headphone jack for standard mimi-plugs and a extension mic jack as well. The built in speaker works well too. If I ever upgrade it will only to be to record in stereo, but for my purposes it's not even needed, just a luxury. Highly recommended for your first digital recorder.
ok for recording but USB is a problem July 6, 2010 unlicatty The recording was what I expected and does the job, but the USB did not fit into my ports - it wasn't long enough to plug in all the way.
Get's the Job Done June 5, 2010 T. Weber (San Luis Obispo, CA) It's your basic digital voice recorder that gets the job done. I very much like the flexibility of the product: it has a regular sized headphone jack, and a regular sized input jack.
HIGH QUALITY SOUND AT A LOW PRICE May 26, 2010 J. Barber (Columbia, MD USA) I was looking for an old fashion tape recorder and found out hey they don't make those anymore. I saw that digital now does what the old style 1970's kind did but better, smaller and offering much more in features. I compared some brands and RCA kindda stood out and so did the price not to leave out the image of it's compact size. At first it was something I had to study in order to understand how the features worked. I'm no tech but no one has to be. It just took me a few times of playing with the features and understanding how they work. Admittedly this or any other digital recorder is as simple and the 6 button 1970's kind. But with a litte time with playing with the features and really reading the pamphlet using the features as you go will help you become a wiz at making recordings. If you get it and get frustrated at the many features don't give up. The features all have a purpose just like the features of your new flat screen hd tv or your new cell phone and blue ray lol. You'll be glad you took the time to; with sometimes trail and error; learn it's a good buy doing just what you wanted and then some. Cons : size is compact enough to fit in the palm or your closed hand and not be noticed or seen in some bigger hands, the price is great, sound quality is great even moreso once you download the recording to a pc of listen through a headset. I find for best recording of music; if you place the recorder down on top of a few napkins or folded paper towel; you will get a much better sound quality where that funny shiss shiss background sound is illiminated. Don't have the music too loud because the recorder is close and the sounds will bounce off the mic and surrounding items near by which is what causes the funny shiss shiss background sound. Test it for best quality by making demo recording with the source sound level turned to different degrees. Like me; you'll find the right level and be like ..ok that's it I got it !!!
