excellent unit! September 25, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Comes with the MapSource 7 software... which does indeed include Hawaii!
Awesome unit -- it's a little slow to acquire, it seems, but once it's there, it's full of great features.
Excellent value, too!
Great handheld GPS May 14, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased Lowrance mainly because of the mixed reviews of the other brands and especially because of the number of people who said the others customer support was overseas and you had to talk to people who didn't speak English well. One person even had to mail his overseas for repair. There were only a couple Lowrance reviews but they were good. So far, the unit works great and I am pleased with it. The batteries last as long as estimated but it doesn't have an electronic compass which I understand pulls more juice. I am still learning to use it. It comes with North direction set to point to the top of the GPS which means you have to have a compass if you don't know so you can point it in the right direction, or you can change it to have North set to whichever way the GPS is pointing. I haven't tried that yet. If you want to put in a street name, you have to click on the arrow keys as numbers and letters change one at a time or you can scroll down the list of names. I would prefer to have all the letters and numbers on the screen at the same time and just use the arrow keys to select them that way. The only thing I am unhappy about with it so far is that it came with MapCreate 6.3 and version 7 is out now. I have emailed Lowrance twice about upgrading it either free for for a small fee but no one has written back. Haven't tried to call yet. These units have dropped in price and I could buy just the GPS now and for a total cost of about $30 more than I paid for the GPS and software together, have the newest MapCreate 7.
Plus is not a plus January 9, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I found the learning curve quite high for the unit and the MapCreate software. There are also unnecessary restrictions, such as a limit on how many SD cards you can format and a requirement to have a software disk in the CD drive before you can work with the software, and a requirement that you must use a LEI SD reader to format an SD card. Result is a lot of unhappy buyers.

I've owned 5 different GPS units over a 8 year period and this is the best of the bunch. It is loaded with features and does an excellent job of all included features. I use this unit for geocaching and travel and I couldn't recommend it more. For the price, it can not be beat !
