Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An excellent phone in all kinds of functions   April 13, 2008
Dont listen to those negative feedback from people that don't own this phone

CONS:
1) No infrared port. But who really use the infrared port of your phone? For me I need the infrared port so that I could use the remote control program.
2) Speaker on the back of the phone. The volume becomes lower when I mount the phone in my car.
3) No holes for me to put strap.
4) Unable to disable the camera sound :(

PROS:
1) High resolution screen. Really really impressive.
2) Quickbar function for use of the camera LED light as flashlight
2) Many keys for easy access. With SPB pocket plus (sold separately), keys can be modified to as many as 10 programs for quick access.
4) Unlocked in factory default. Dual camera and 3G function.
5) More sensitive GPS receiver, compare to my Magellan RoadMate
6) Many useful pre-installed program

Neither PROS or CONS:
1) Retractable Stylus
2) The protruding nipple
3) Battery life is better than many of Windows Mobile devices, but may not as good as many non-PDA phones. Well, the screen is big, you cannot expect a big screen PDA device to have same battery life as a small screen non-PDA device.
4) Very good looking. (Personal preference)

5 out of 5 stars Very Good Windows Mobile Phone   February 27, 2008

Don't let reviews from people who don't have the item fool you...
I have this phone for about half a month now (short time for a complete review, but better than not having the item).
This phone has a fast processor and a EXCELENT screen, two things that are important for a Win Mobile smartphone.
It already comes with Windows Mobile 6, this is the last version of the system (till now) and you don't need to upgrade, a plus in my opinion.
As the other reviewer said, you don't get any GPS software with it, but with about 20 to 30 dollars you can get any of the proffesional software to run with it, or get going with Googlemaps which is free but you have to get a permanent internet connection or it exits.
The 3G connection is very good, I get respectable speed with it (at least for my country, Brazil) it was the fastest 3G phone I have tested so far.
The programs that came with it have two sides, most of them are interesting but they use a lot of memory, and this is something that this phone could have more, the 64MB of RAM are kinda small for it. It doesn't get slow because of it, but you can't open a lot of things at once. Mine stays with only 20MB free after a boot with some SPB programs installed.
It comes with a small version of the SPB MobileShell wich is a nice adition, but do make the phone a little slower.
The first firmware was a problem, it was way slower and had a serious problem with the memory, but the newer one is very good. The phone is stable and faster with it. (mine came with the newer one already, but I have used an older one in a friends device)
The camera had a real problem of beeing a mess and blurry in the first firmware. But i can say that my camera now work very well for a 2MP phone cam. It's not as good as some old 2MP cameras as those of SonyEricson K750, but it does it's job of beeing a phone cam. It has a update for it in the site too, but again... mine came already patched.
The screen is... well the screen is REALLY GORGEOUS, I must say that after looking for this screen and using it, I can't use any other phone :). It has excelent colors, clarity, and turning on the cleartype fonts, make them the best I have ever seen.
The only thing I recomend is to get a good GPS program for your area or country and to buy the full version of SPB shell, which you get a 50% discount with the phone brochure.
One thing that should be sayd, I don't know if it is only mine, but with heavy use, this thing is a battery eater, one or two days is the best I can get with my use, the older SonyEricsson lasted for almost a week, sure I didn't use as much as this one, but is something I must say anyway.

4 out of 5 stars A quick review   February 22, 2008

Cons:
* Google maps is not a GPS replacement - it's free, so it's not that much of a con. Oh, but you can only use the GPS function if you have a cell signal.
* Can't just lock external keys - this becomes a problem when trying to use the browser or reading email. It may just take getting used to
* Battery life with active use is only about a day
* Screen size could be bigger
* The protruding nipple - I think it's bound to get broken, but the other half disagrees. However, it's capped off with some sort of buffed glass, so it's incredibly smooth when using.
* There isn't a sufficient case available that I've found. The case that comes with it is pretty lame.
* No infrared port - but given its other connectivity options...

Pro
* Good looking
* The resolution
* Not heavy
* Great performance for a Windows mobile device - almost no lag
* Integrated GPS. Google maps will show you where you are, but it's not really functional as a GPS as stated above. You can actually text someone your exact coordinates - for those times you're lost.
* Stylus is extremely discrete. It's also a snug fit.

1 out of 5 stars ETEN support nightmare!   February 5, 2008
8 out of 11 found this review helpful

Regardless of the phone model, the quality of the back end support doesn't change because it's the company, not the phone you're dealing with. This review is about a shoddy product and a lack of support. I will NEVER buy another ETEN product and would tell anyone considering an ETEN product to STAY AWAY and buy from a different company.

I bought an ETEN M700 back in January of 2007. On paper, the phone looked like the real deal, with everything, GPS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, touch screen...the works. 3G wasn't such a big deal when the m700 came out, so I could live with EDGE/GPRS. I got the phone, and for the first two weeks I thought it was the greatest thing ever featurewise. Construction-wise, it had a lot to be desired. The slider keyboard is cheap. Compared to other slider phones, ATT Tilt, TMobile Wing, HTC Touch Dual, the sliding mechanism is rough. Those other phones have lightly spring-loaded rollers that make the sliding mechanism very smooth and pleasant. The m700 is just bare plastic on plastic, almost gritty, and difficult to open. The phone is also bulky. If it's in your pocket, forget about trying to fish it out if you're driving, or sitting down.

Everyone else who called me hated my new phone. All inbound callers to this phone were greeted by an ear-splitting screech that lasted for about 2 tenths of a second - just long enough to say OW! and short enough to think it was a fluke, except that it happened every time. To test it, I switched over to my old Motorola v600, and my callers stopped getting the ear-popping screech. When I switched back to my m700, the screech came back.

After 4 months (the end of May), my phone broke. I was on a road trip, using the m700 as an mp3 player (the line out volume was very low) and as my GPS navigation at the same time, when the phone screen went black and a DOS looking boot screen showed up. Then it rebooted again, and again, and again until it finally shut itself off, never to turn on again.

That's when I found out about ETEN's non-existent support. Check ETEN's website and you'll find that there are no US contact numbers for the company. You'll also find a support link, but you have to have a login and password to get in! Why? Because you have to be a distributor if you want support. After a fair amount of research and repeatedly pestering the retailer I bought the phone from ([...] - don't buy from them either!), they finally tell me there is only a single (yes only one!) importer for ETEN phones in the US. I don't know this for sure, but I had emailed every contact email on ETEN's website and did not receive a single response. The retailer tells me that ETEN does NOT deal directly with customers and that they won't respond if I contact them directly. Funny, because when I first contacted Samstores about my broken phone, they told me to contact ETEN. I had to hassle with Samstores for almost 2 weeks before they finally gave me an RMA number for the supposed 1 year USA warranty on the phone.

I paid to ship my phone back. After 3 weeks, no response. I called the retailer and left messages - no response. Whenever I spoke with someone who said their "guy" would call me back tomorrow - never called me back. I had to keep calling until someone answered. Finally I got a hold of someone who told me they contacted ETEN. They tell me, "2 more weeks!" I wait and wait. 2 weeks goes by, still no phone. I call the retailer AGAIN and they contact ETEN who tells them it's almost ready. Another week goes by, I finally get the phone back. ZERO work has been done on the phone. It is in the exact same condition as when I shipped it back. I contact the retailer again and ask for a refund or even an exchange for a new phone. They tell me OK, send the phone back and they'll refund my money. It's early August now. I send the phone back with delivery confirmation, pay for shipping again, and wait. I see through online tracking that the phone has been delivered so I call the retailer. Now they tell me, they're not going to issue a refund, that they're shipping the phone back to ETEN again! I'm livid. I pester them every day until they give me the number for their contact at ETEN.

I call him immediately. BEWARE! ETEN's policy is REPAIR ONLY. They will not exchange phone or issue a refund. He tells me they're using a different place now to do the repairs, someplace more "reputable" in California. I wait three weeks, still no phone. I call again, only to discover, for some crazy reason my phone has been shipped back to the UK! After many more phone calls and ANOTHER 3 weeks, I get my phone back. I don't even want the phone anymore, but I'm hoping everything is fixed so I can at least salvage it on eBay. I open the box and plug the phone in. To my utter shock, the phone is STILL BROKEN!!! It is, once again, in the exact same condition in which I shipped it to them - broken. So out of the 1 year "warranty" and the 4 months I used the phone, it was being "repaired" for almost 5 months. In the meantime I bought a different phone - the TMobile Dash (HTC Excalibur) - a fantastic phone, in place of the ETEN phone. No GPS but much smaller, lighter and with an external keyboard that works well for one-handed use, and all the symbols on the keys light up. On the ETEN m700, only the letters would be backlit, so if you were trying to type in the dark, none of the symbols or numbers were visible.

Samstores finally offered me a refund after I contacted them about the second non-repair and threatened to take them to small claims court, just send the phone back and they'll issue a credit to my credit card, they say. I ship the phone back again, paying for shipping again, and call them when I see the delivery confirmation. I don't see the credit on my card statement after a week, so I call them again, and they give me the runaround AGAIN! After two weeks, they blame the distributor. I call the distributor and leave a message about the phone. He calls me back the next day and says he has issued the refund. I call Samstores after this and they say, "We have good news for you...your refund has been issued!" It is now mid-October. Almost 6 months of nothing and I finally get the refund I had asked for in the first place.

So, for those of you considering this phone, it's a fun gadget. Beware if it breaks because you could be in for a long, drawn-out headache. At any rate, they'll quote you 6 weeks for the repair which means you'll have no phone in the meantime, and who knows when you'll get it back, and if it will even work when you get it. Personally, I will NEVER buy another ETEN product, and I would tell anyone who is considering buying an ETEN phone not to buy anything from that company.

4 out of 5 stars Everything what I need...   December 24, 2007

I was looking for a PDA which has GPS chip and FM radio while using my KJam. I decided to buy a Glofiish X500+ after some market survey but X800 stopped me. Because it has more then I need. Screen resolution is impressive, 500Mhz CPU works well.

The only thing I have to say is that my oldie KJam was more ergonomic. I think placement and access of buttons should be better.

However, it is a good deal.
