5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend the Kindle   December 2, 2008
I have really enjoyed the Kindle. I keep it in my purse so always have a book ready to read. It is very user friendly and the one time I did have questions they were quickly answered.

5 out of 5 stars Traveling light   December 2, 2008
I sometimes travel and when I travel I read...this makes life so much easier for me because I don't have to haul four or five books with me, it's all on my Kindle. I love it - it downloads in seconds and I don't need to read it with my glasses! This is definately the wave of the future. I can see college students/teachers using the Kindle for all their books.

1 out of 5 stars No signal in my area - Had to return it.   December 2, 2008

Apparently I live too far out in the country to be able to use the Kindle. I had to drive 13 miles from my home to even get a weak signal. I bought the product so that I could buy books from home, at my leisure, but if I have to get in the car and drive over 13 miles just to download a book, it really isn't worth it. I returned it 2 days after I got it. I was very disappointed because I am an avid reader and thought this product would be perfect for me.

4 out of 5 stars Kindle or Sony Reader?   December 2, 2008

I have been intrigued by the Kindle for some time, waited for it to be on the market for while, hoping that price would fall and finally broke down and bought one, even though price never changed. Lo and behold, i go to target and saw that Sony came out with a comparative product, at a lower price! The Kindle is fine, but since its only tied into Amazon, it can be a bit restrictive. The Sony Reader is thinner and made of a more durable aluminum case, unlike the Kindle which is plastic, and is open to any eBook, not just books from Sony's store. Kindle battery life is great. I find that the page turner is very nice, but you have to be careful when handling it as it presses easily and causes you to lose your page easily. The bookmark feature is fine, but getting back to your place is a bit hard to do sometime if you forget to bookmark. i think that the software can be improved upon, where it automatically marks your page when you shut it down, and gets you back to the page with a single button, rather than having to use the curse wheel device. I am not thrilled with reading magazines on the kindle, as one of the joys of reading magazines is the glossy pictures, and even the ads, an experience lost in a Kindle. For books, though, its great, and the screen is nice. I travel overseas a lot and would really also like to see the wireless feature work in more countries. Overall its a satisfactory device that really has gone far to assist a frequent traveler and avid reader like me to to avoid dragging lots of books on my trips. I wish, however that improvements would come along sooner, and when they do, that they will allow for trade-in credit from this first model.

1 out of 5 stars can't get one   December 2, 2008

Talk about epic fail -- Amazon is out of stock and not shipping for well over a month, driving prices of the the used ones $200 higher than the new product sells for. Nice job there Amazon, way to be prepared for the holidays. And yes, I feel fine giving this a crappy review without owning it, because you can't own it if Amazon has stopped shipping them.
