Didn't think it'd be easy... October 29, 2008 I ordered this product for "Directv on Demand" which requires the internet access. The installation was surprisingly easy although the manual is not well written. I live in a house which has it's own elec. box.
Rock solid connection, steal deal. October 22, 2008 I second the positive observations left here by others. After several troubled experiences with wireless Linksys and Netgear routers, both solutions were losing connection, later became even hardware dead in 13 month use, just out of warranty, period, we were giving up on a wireless connection in our congested Silicon Valley surroundings with complex wall interior. Based on the positive feedback here and on a splendid performance of Panasonic's wireless phones, we took the pair of Ethernet connectors, and we were not disappointed. Once the connection was established, it never faulted once in these many months!
However, note that power line connection may have its limits too. In our large square footage home the quest was to connect two rooms on its extreme ends, with receptacles connected to a different phase! The connection was not possible from the receptacles close to the computers, we laid out a cat-6 cable long the wall of one of the rooms to reach the closer receptacle. Once it snapped the connection, we were up and running. The speed is with 2-3Mbit/sec much lower than my 17-24Mbit/sec directly from my cable router, but its plenty enough and better than many people have with DSL. Maybe we could do something by connecting the 2nd room to the same phase, but we are fine for our kind of use with 2-3Mbit/sec.
Very pleased October 20, 2008 I received two Panasonic ethernet powerline adapters in quick order a month ago. It took longer to read the instructions than it took to program and install the units. They worked perfectly from the outset and are still fine in an instance where wireless networking would not work. No more wireless networks, with their awkward programming to get started, for me.
I have read that the Panasonic units do not meet the standard spec for powerline units, but who cares? They work flawlessly (over 30 megs thruput) and I am not going to mix these units with units from other manufacturers.
works great so far October 15, 2008 -worked right out of the box -runs hot but so far so good -has a power cord (rather than plugging in directly to the wall like most other products) which was more convenient for me (also may help it dissipate the heat a bit to not have it right next to the wall) -didn't work at all if plugged into a power strip, but works fine when plugged direct into wall receptacle -speed is at least as fast as the wireless connection that this replaced
panasonic powerline adaptor October 6, 2008 This product is as easy as 1-2-3. Just plug it directly into the wall, connect your ethernet to your router and to you computer/gaming system. The product works flawlessly. I like the idea of not having to broadcast wireless, leaving my network at risk of intrusion and not sacrificing the speed. I bought this product to move my desk into a built in area and to connect my xbox 360 wired not wireless. So far so good. I recommend this product to anyone how can understand third grade instructions.
